10 Minute Solution: Pilates

One of the reasons I like Pilates is that it requires very little equipment. I do not even use a mat. Speaking as one, any business traveller could make good use of this DVD for exercise on the road.

This workout is fairly challenging, and I liked that. It wasn't so much that it tired me out. The challenging bit is that each exercise really made me feel "the burn". The instructor's excellent cues and the good use of videography allowed me to follow along easily. She offered many reminders of body positioning and what we should be doing, stretching limbs away from eachother, squeezing our stomach towards the spine, or breathing.

Stott Pilates - Firm and Fit

As always Moira starts with detailed explanations and warm ups and with the help of a student who demonstrates beautifully, leads you through a wonderful, well paced pilates practice.

This practice basically follows the intermediate Pilates series with some additional advanced poses added in as well. It's about 45 minutes long but flows so beautifully that the time really flies by.

Some people find Moria Stott to be dry or boring, but I find her to be a pleasure to practice with. Perhaps because I'm from a Yoga background (daily for the past nine years) I'm used to teachers who are less "rah rah" (I also don't like blaring music when I'm practicing Yoga or Pilates)so Moira's approach fits me well. If you like teachers who have a more hyper "in your face" personality then this may not be a good fit for you. But if you want a teacher who knows her stuff and who will guide you in a way that is sound and effective then Moira Stott is someone you will truly appreciate on so many levels.

Rael Pilates: System 27

was Surprised how good this dvd is , it is the cheapest pilates dvd I've bought (on DDD) yet it's the best in my opinion and my favorite now. The production quality is great and the picture is widescreen, it's from the same production team of the "Total Yoga" series which I also recommend.This is the third level and the most advanced in his pilates system series but it's not the most advanced pilates dvd you can find , in fact I'd say its good even for intermediate (and advanced) pilates students in good shape.It's a challenging yet doable workout and primarily focuses on the powerhouse( not alot upper or lower body work) .There's no super advanced pilates exercises on this one but the workout flows great , rael's instruction is motivating and straightforward.

Quick Fix - Pilates Abs Workout

Pilates focuses on strengthening the core or midsection, so a Pilates-based abdominal workout is a natural. The first of the three 10-minute sessions led by instructor Keli Roberts utilizes many of the classic Pilates moves: curls, leg circles, the 100, criss-crosses, a teaser sequence, and swan dive. The second set combines some traditional mid-section exercises with Pilates resulting in a mix of sit-ups, the can can, leg stretches, scissors, and rollups. Stabilization is the goal of the final and most difficult series, starting with rolldowns from a standing position, pushups, and rollups back up again. Other exercises use the plank and side positions and require both skill and balance. Fortunately, one of Roberts's assistants demonstrates modifications. With so many variations crammed into each short set, beginners may benefit from watching the exercises first and making liberal use of the pause button as they learn.
